Kentaro Yamada and The Uplifted Project

I’m not sure what I did to get included in this inspirational project by Kentaro Yamada. I’ve followed Kentaro’s photography since he started shooting Chicago and architecture in the city. Somewhere along the way Kentaro decided that he wanted to create more than just beautiful images with his camera.

Kentaro’s “The Uplifted” project has a double meaning. The images feature the highlighted person’s most prized possessions levitating around the person. But the spirit of the project is to “uplift” the person.

I am honored to be part of “The Uplifted” project alongside some great Chicagoans including Chef Rick Bayless, Peter Sagal- Host of NPR’s “Wait, Wait…Don’t Tell Me!”, Catherine De Orio of WTTW’s “Check, Please!”, Jake Nickell-Founder of Threadless, Paula Fasseas-Founder of PAWS Chicago, and Josh Deth-Founder of Revolution Brewing.

Here are some of my favorite images from the project. Check out all of the people that Kentaro has “Uplifted” at theUplifted.net.

Chef Rick Bayless | World Renowned Mexican Cuisine Chef

Rick Nielsen | Lead Guitarist of Cheap Trick

Theo Jansen | Creator of Strandbeest

Peter Sagal | The Host of NPR’s “Wait, Wait…Don’t Tell Me!”

Neuroscientists Sliman Bensmaia, PhD & Nicholas Hatsopoulos, PhD | Department of Organismal Biology and Anatomy at The University of Chicago

Walter E. Smithe | Walter E. Smithe Furniture Owner

Miss Alex White & Francis White | White Mystery

And the crazy thing is that Kentaro may be the nicest, most sincere and happiest person I’ve ever met.

Thank you for including me, Kentaro! Check out all of the people that Kentaro has “Uplifted” at theUplifted.net.
